Burna Boy celebrates the launch of his new single “sitting on top of the world” on apple music. This has been greeted with mixed feelings from his fans. Burna Boy whose fans cut across lovers of afrobeat and hip-hop some of whom are also Davido fans have criticised his latest single for it’s lack of specific genre. The song “sitting on top of the world” which may have been inspired by his recent global successful tours features ……… It is available on AppleMusic, AudioMack, Youtube, Spotify, AmazonMusic, Pandora and Tidal. The single which is a remake of the 1998 song “Top Of The World” by R&B superstar Brandy featuring hip-hop rapper Mase from the album ‘Never Say Never’ (1998) has caused some BurnaBoy fans to express confusion as to what genre of music he is targeting.
Listening to the song from Burna Boys official YouTube channel one immediately gets the impression that he is listening to a remix of Brandy’s song with the exact same intro, instrumental and chorus lyrics. The question then arises, is it for lack of ideas or talent that would necessitate Burna exhibiting such copy at skills.
Though Burna’s rapp lyrics on the song are typical of his own personal expressions the production itself leaves much to be desired since it’s more or less his collabo with Brandy (even though Brandy was physically absent) in just the same way rapper Mase features on the song 25 years ago.
Despite his resounding music success this year this latest single leave some confusion and much to be desired by his impatient fans who are craving for the next big thing from Burna. with one fan saying the song should have been named “sitting under the world”. Interestingly the song sits at the top of the list on the most added songs in US urban radio.
