Sir Victor Uwaifo Dies at 80
Reports from family sources confirm that the Legendary Sir Victor Efosa Uwaifo has passed on in his home at the age of 80.
The Music maestro and self acclaimed “guiter boy” was a sculptor, academic, musical instrument inventor and Professor of Arts who was awarded the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) by a former military government in Nigeria.
Sir Victor Uwaifo was born 1st March 1941. He attended Western Boys High School in his hometown and later, St Gregory’s College, Lagos and subsequently Yaba College of Technology, Lagos from where he obtained a National Art Diploma with distinction. He then concluded a B.A Hons Degree in Fine and Applied Arts with a First Class and a Masters’ Degree in Sculpting from the same University of Benin (UNIBEN).
He is the first Honorable Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in Nigeria, winner of the first gold disc in Africa and is recognized as the most educated performing music legend ever.
The singer and skilled guitarist had in an interview with Punch earlier in the year narrated how he escaped death by electrocution during a show in Warri Delta State in 1969.
