Many rarely pay attention to the individual quality of what reagents wear. This is because we are usually overwhelmed by the grandiosity of the traditional rulers dressing. As usual a traditional ruler is expected to appear in large grand traditional regalia, flowing Agbada with a massive head gear. The Emir of Kano is no exception. But we hardly pay attention to certain details that demonstrate style of design and class. This is where the westerners are different. If a leader displays a unique style in dressing, especially if he or she is royalty like the Emir of Kano, the designer of the atire immediately shoots into the limelight as everyone desires to copy the Emirs style.
During the recent coronation of the Emir of Kano we observed the Emir wearing footwear that should be on display at a high end designer store in the middle of London or new York. We are yet to ascertain the designer of the footwear but it obviously appears to be localy made in Kano. Though not completely visible the footwear appears to be a flat sole slippers with dark fluffy featherlike texture which completely cover the Emirs feet. We expect the inside of the footwear would be well padded to ease comfort and movement since the soles are obviously flat. This footwear is very expensive and even caries a signature logo.
The Embroidery of the Emirs white under attire also leaves great competition for our tailors and fashion designers. Those who know about fashion know that Embroidery is not cheap. In fact it is not affordable to the average Nigerian. But the Emirs under attire has such an excess of gold coloured Embroidery that it’s obvious the design just wanted to display what he is good at in excess.
