Why Do Men Get Distracted? Is it genetics, nature, greed or a natural proclivity to want more.
HE JUST GOT ENGAGED AND HIS EYES ARE SOMEWHERE ELSE ALREADY: So this dude took his Babe out to a restaurant on a weekend. Unknown to her today is not just like any other date. Her Boyfriend has special plans. Midway into the meal after the wine has been served ma broda from another mother pops the BIG question. “Marry me princess” he says in a semi wisper. Actually it was more like a request than a question. Shocked and speachless she recovers from her surprise and says “Yes….yes…..yes”. Ma brother is all smiles and kisses and his brand new fiancee is feeling all mushy mushy and romantic. She’s so excited wants to start wifey duties immediately. She starts to feed him from her plate of spagetti pasta. My guy is caught on camera checking out another Babe just within minutes of proposing marriage to his girl. One would have expected that the pressure of uncertainty of her answer would have gotten him all tensed up with expectation, but aparently all it did was to raise his libido meter, because my guy right now is checking out another Babes Bumbum and figure 8. As Nigerians would say, “This life no balance”.
You need to see the look on this guys face as he checks out the next Babe in a red dress. My guy looks like a kid whose Dad bought him a toy car the size of his palm only to see his next door neighbour unwrapping the latest Playstation. Indeed this life no balance. Boyz why we dey do like dis na! Why!
Why can’t a black man maintain focus when theres a hot lady around. Why are we so easily distracted. Why is it that if you put raw cash in front of a man and a lady in a red dress next to him rathee than focus on the money his focus will shift to the lady and attempt to use the money to get the lady’s attention.
So I did some research and deep digging and was able to come up with the following excuses for our weakness:
1) Adventure : Nigerian men are naturaly adventorous and curious. A woman is a source of curiousity. Even if dem dey bite. The same things that attract a woman to a man will easily arouse curiosity in a man towards a woman.
2) Nature : Men easily get distracted by women simply because its the way we are created. Right from ancient history man has found woman a source of distraction. Women are configured to seek attention while men are configured to give attention. Women (females) are designed to be on the run while men (males) are designed to give chase. Its the natural order of things wether you are a human, dog, cat, mouse or giraffe. So next time you are wondering why men can’t get their eyes of women think of a dance floor in a party or club without a single woman. Think of an all mens University or Polytechnic. Aint all those quite awkward.
3) Its The Way GOD Made Us : Remember our guy Adam. That chairman who made history as the first man to ever lose focus. He was also the first man to ever be distracted by a woman. Remember GOD never planned for woman in the first place. But after creating man he observed that “it is not good for man to be alone”. So woman was created to be a natural source of companionship to man. Its inevitable that woman will always perform that role of being the center of a mans attention. I swear that guy Adam I sure sey na black man.
4) Physical Attraction : Naija men love good things. The woman who is causing the distraction may be attractive today but she may not be attractive tomorrow. Shes attractive today because of a combination of factors which are specific to how she looks today. Some of those factors are her dress (red just does it for men), make up, her figure 8 on the dress, her brand new Bone streight weavon attachment, the way her calf muscles contract while on her high healed shoes and of course the other physical features that come with the territory….you know, those features that tell you if shes a defender, attacker, attacking midfielder or just a central midfielder.
5) Some Women Do It Deliberately : like I said its just the natural order of things. Men cant just help themselves. What I wonder is why the urge seems double for black men. So women always talk about being taken advantage of by men. But what people dont know is that women also take advantage of mens proclivities and weakness for being easily distracted.
6) Black Woman : remember those features in a typical African woman that you wouldnt even look out for in a white caucasian woman. Y’know, the bumbum, round boobs, big thick thighs, side curved hips, curved low back, even the broad shoulders and square face. Well Black men are also preprogramed by default to examine those features in a woman as soon as he sees her. By the time a Man is 21 he is well trained and psychologicaly positioned to quickly carry out an asessment of those physical features in a woman. An African male can mentaly calculate dimensions of a womans physique within 5 seconds of sighting her.
My research also tells me that when men easily get distracted by women it shows a lack of maturity. As a man it takes a high level of discipline and experience to remain focused and respectfull especially when in front of your lady. If a man is alone and an attractive lady walks past him a quick glance is warranted but a mature man will get back on track rather than allow his gaze or focus linger on.
Many mature men are also faced with the daily challenge of working in an office where a lady or ladies are in the habit of dressing in tight clothing. This is a battle of distraction that a man is actually not designed to win. A man will need an extreme amount of focus and maturity to manage such distractions daily. Some have had to call female subordinates into their office and politely requested the lady improve on her dressing. HR (Human Resources) have had to assist some guys to talk to ladies after the guy had reported and made a request for HR intervention. Those are the mature ones. Most of our Nigerian men enjoy the distraction, especially the younger to middle aged ones.
So next time you wonder why Nigerian guys are so easily distracted, now you have an idea why.
