I recently had a conversation with my wife when the issue of paternity fraud broke at the beginning of the year. During the conversation I sought her perspective on a scenario which was playing in my mind.
I told her that assuming, I received a call from a lady I had an affair with years back telling me that I am the father of her 19 year old boy, who of course would be much older than my wife’s first child for me. What would be her reaction?
She simply hissed and looked at me with some fire in her eyes and said “you would never try that, you better be joking”.
But I continued, testing her resilience I told her that what if the mother said the boy just wanted to know his father since he is now in England. My wife’s countenance changed a little and said “and so”?
I told her that the mother said that he is now a professional footballer and had recently signed a contract with Chelsea FC on a salary of 150,000 pounds per week. She gazed longingly into space and slowly started smiling.
I told her that the boy is now requesting to know his half brothers and sisters and he is willing to sponsor them to the UK for their education and he will be responsible for all expenses. My wife just went into wonderland. Her next comment mesmerized me. She just said: “I just pray this your joke is real”
The significance of this to me is that a man is more likely to question the paternity of a child that is not successful in life rather than a successfull one. Can the father of any sitting governor in Nigeria be asking for the DNA result of his son the governor?
What about women, money and comfort? Any connection?
